Physical activity is essential to promote health and well-being in the community. People who are physically active tend to live longer and have lower risk for chronic disease, including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancers. Physical activity can also help with weight control and mental health.

Car-Lite October Campaign
- In 2018, the team launched the Car-Lite October Campaign to encourage El Dorado County residents to try something new and replace car trips with walking, biking, using transit, riding in a carpool or vanpool, or teleworking. The campaign had 107 individuals pledge to go car-lite in October with over 12,700 miles pledged to be reduced. Check out our 2-page summary.
Billion Steps Challenge
- In 2018, El Dorado County participated in the 1 Billion Steps Challenge with the “Walking to Well Dorado Team”. The team collectively logged over 45 million steps.

Sun Safety Campaign
- In 2017, the El Dorado County Public Health Division, City of Placerville's Community Services Department, Marshall Medical Center and El Dorado Community Health Center partnered to promote skin cancer prevention and awareness beginning in May and throughout the summer months. The campaign targeted El Dorado County policy makers, Placerville aquatic managers and instructors, residents and kids.
